Corseener photoelectric switches use an infrared or red light beam to detect objects at ranges far beyond what inductive or capacitive sensors can reach — up to 5 metres — and can detect any target material, since detection is based on interrupting or reflecting a light beam rather than sensing electrical or magnetic properties. Available in diffuse-reflective (with background suppression) and retro-reflective (mirror) configurations for different application layouts.
A photoelectric switch pairs a light emitter (typically infrared 880nm or visible red 650nm) with a light receiver, and triggers its output when the light path between them is interrupted or reflected back. Because the sensing mechanism is optical rather than electromagnetic, photoelectric switches can detect any target material — metal, plastic, wood, paper, liquid — at ranges from a few centimetres up to several metres, far beyond what inductive or capacitive sensors can achieve.
The diffuse-reflective type combines emitter and receiver in one housing and relies on light reflecting directly off the target itself — practical because no reflector is needed on the far side, though reflectivity and colour of the target affect range. A background-suppression version adds a second receiver element to define a precise cut-off distance, so the sensor ignores a background wall or conveyor bed sitting behind the target. The retro-reflective (mirror) type also combines emitter and receiver in one housing, but bounces its light off a dedicated reflector mounted on the opposite side — giving longer, more consistent range since the reflector is far more efficient than a diffuse target surface.

Sensor Types
The right type depends on your mounting layout — whether you can install a reflector on the opposite side of the target path.
Emitter and receiver in one housing; detects light reflecting directly off the target. Background-suppression models add a defined cut-off distance so the sensor ignores anything behind the target — useful when a wall, machine part or conveyor bed sits close behind the detection point.
Best for: object detection where mounting a reflector isn't practical, and where the background behind the target must be ignored. Sensing distance 10–200mm.
Emitter and receiver in one housing, with a dedicated reflector mounted on the opposite side of the target path. Light bounces off the reflector back to the receiver; when an object breaks the beam, the output switches. Reflectors give a much stronger, more consistent return signal than a diffuse target surface.
Best for: longer-range detection (up to 5m) and where you can mount a small reflector opposite the sensor. Works reliably regardless of target color or surface finish.

FAQs
If you can mount a small reflector on the opposite side of the target path, retro-reflective gives longer and more consistent range. If that's not practical, diffuse-reflective with background suppression works from a single mounting point.
For diffuse-reflective sensors, yes — darker or less reflective targets reduce range. Retro-reflective sensors are far less affected by target color since they rely on the dedicated reflector, not the target surface, for their return signal.
It means the sensor ignores anything beyond a defined cut-off distance — so a wall, machine part or conveyor bed sitting behind your target won't trigger a false detection.
