Unlike inductive sensors, Corseener capacitive proximity switches detect metallic and non-metallic targets alike — liquids, powders, granules, plastics, wood and glass — by sensing changes in electrical capacitance as a target enters the sensing field. Sensitivity is adjustable via an onboard potentiometer, letting you tune the sensor to "see through" a container wall to detect the material inside, or to ignore a specific background material.
A capacitive proximity switch forms one plate of a capacitor at its sensing face; the target being detected effectively forms the second plate, with air (or the container wall) as the dielectric between them. As a target approaches, it changes the capacitance of this arrangement — the sensor's oscillator circuit detects this change and flips its output. Because capacitance is affected by any material with a dielectric constant different from air, capacitive sensors respond to virtually any substance — conductive or not — making them the go-to choice when inductive sensing (metal-only) won't work.
The adjustable sensitivity potentiometer is what makes these genuinely useful in practice: mount the sensor against a plastic tank wall, tune the sensitivity so it "sees through" the wall but not the tank itself, and it becomes a non-invasive level switch for the liquid or powder inside — with no port or seal penetrating the tank.

Product Range
Reference sizes from the Corseener CSN capacitive proximity switch range — larger bodies generally give longer sensing distance, useful for detection through thicker container walls.
| Body / Series | Sensing Distance | Wiring | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| M12 (CSN12M) | 1–3mm | DC 3-wire, M12 connector | Compact size for small containers |
| M18 / M30 | Model dependent | DC 3-wire | General-purpose sizes |
| Ø34 (CSN34H) | 2–25mm | DC 3-wire | Longer range for thicker walls / larger targets |
| Ring / Circular (CSN40Q) | Up to 30mm | DC 3-wire | Target passes through the center bore |

FAQs
Yes — with sensitivity tuned correctly via the onboard potentiometer, a capacitive sensor can be mounted against a plastic or thin-walled container and detect the liquid or powder level inside without any port or contact with the product.
Inductive sensors only detect metal targets. Capacitive sensors detect virtually any material — metal, liquid, powder, plastic, wood or glass — because they respond to changes in capacitance rather than requiring a conductive target.
Sensitivity adjustment lets you tune the sensor to detect your actual target while ignoring the mounting surface or container wall it's installed against — without this, the sensor might trigger on the wrong material.
